Computer Assembly - How To Assemble A PC

WCPUID

WCPUID is a must-have little utility to verify that the AGP functionality is enabled. Without AGP enabled, everything can "look and feel" fine, at least for the most part or until you give the computer something really graphically challenging to do. But performance is dramatically reduced with AGP disabled. A recent WCPUID download version is available from AMD3D.com. The version I retrieved was WCPUID 3.0f at around 256KB in download size.

The installation is nothing fancy. Just double-click on the downloaded file and it will decompresses and break out its package of files into the folder you specify. That's it. Double-click on the wcpuid.exe file to run it. I put mine in a folder labeled "wcpuid" on the "c:" drive. Shouldn't get lost there.

Run WCPUID to verify AGP is enabled. When you run it, the first screen will look something like this. Push the "Chipset Information" icon on this page, circled in blue.

Notice the right-hand side of this screen shows the AGP Information. I have AGP Spec. Revision 2.0 and it shows as enabled. It will show as disabled if the chipset drivers have never been installed.
